BMW R 1250 GS Overview
BMW R 1250 GS is the latest version of BMW Motorrad’s
flagship adventure tourer
which now gets a new engine with bigger
displacement, and now comes with variable valve timing. The R 1250 GS
replaces the BMW R 1200 GS and gets more power, more torque and a
completely upgraded electronics package featuring two riding modes, ABS,
automatic stability control and Hill Start Control. Riding Mode Pro is
available as an option and includes additional riding modes, dynamic
traction control, ABS Pro, Hill Start Control Pro and Dynamic Brake
Assist. The semi-active electronic suspension is also updated and it
also gets a full-colour TFT screen, with Bluetooth connectivity.
BMW R 1250 GS gets a new 1,254 cc boxer-twin engine, which now
gets a longer stroke and a bigger bore and gains 9 per cent more power
and 14 % more torque.
Maximum power output is 136 bhp at 7750 rpm
and 143 Nm at 6250 rpm. The biggest change in the engine though is the
new ShiftCam Technology, which is essentially variable valve timing. The
result is improved torque, reduced emissions and better fuel economy.
The BMW R 1250 GS comes with cast aluminium wheels with a 19-inch front
wheel and a 17-inch rear and gets the BMW Motorrad telelever suspension
at the front with 37 mm stanchion diameter. At the rear, the R 1250 GS
gets paralever suspension with spring pre-load and rebound damping
adjustability. The BMW R 1250 GS comes with a 20 litre fuel tank and has a
kerb weight of 249 kg .
